The Book Drunkard Literary Festival
How lucky is Uxbridge?!! Our cup runneth over. For a few years now, Uxbridge venues have hosted the weekend long Springtide Music Festival. We now have the long awaited Pump Park, and it's recently been announced that our Cottage Hospital would see redevelopment. Still in its infancy is the long-planned aquatic centre with 8 lanes of swimming, a gymnasium, an indoor track, and a therapy pool.
Another epic festival will be at our local venues shortly. Get ready for the Book Drunkard Literary Festival from Oct 17th - Nov 3rd 2019. The Music Hall, Trinity United Church, Wooden Sticks Golf Course, Blue Heron Studio, Farmer's Market, Second Wedge, Slabtown Cider, Leaskdale Church, and Urban Pantry will all be hosting one or more of these literary events.
Not to be confused with Oktoberfest debauchery, this is an event for book lovers!! Lucy Maud Montgomery said, “I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.”
I've heard that Second Wedge and Slabtown Cider have both created new drinks just for this occasion. Who said that books, beer and cider can't live in harmony..
Starting off the Festival is John Irving (Prayer for Owen Meany, The World According to Garp, Cider House Rules etc). Also in attendance will be: our own Ted Barris, Tom Taylor, Ken McGoogan, Terry Fallis, Farah Heron, Jessica Westhead, Marissa Stapley, Shandi Mitchell, Steven Price, Sally Armstrong, Robyn Doolittle, Mary Berg, Mark Howard, Rachel McMillan, Andrew Pyper, Tom Wilson, Sharon & Bram, Susan Swan, Jane Urquhart, Ruth Walker, Matt Holm, Kerry Clare, Brenda Clark, Jan Dolby, Charlotte Grey, Linden MacInytyre, Whitney Barris, Kelly Hill, and Kate Macdonald.
Tickets for John Irving are sold out, but there's still a lot of fun to be had!! Go to Bookdrunkard.com for tickets and more detailed information!
